The Difference Between PU Joined and Truly Endless Tooth Belts

Closed loop polyurethane timing belts are available from Beltingonline in two types; joined or truly endless. Both have their advantages & disadvantages.

TRULY ENDLESS BELTS

These belts are available in either CONTI Synchroflex or BRECO Brecoflex types in many standard pitches from 1.5mm to 20mm.

Synchroflex belts are made in moulds from cast polyurethane with steel tension members wound round a central toothed former. Other tension members and special polyurethanes are available but usually with large minimum quantities. The advantage of Synchroflex belts is that large stocks of standard length belts are available quickly, the disadvantage is, that if the belt you want is not available, mould costs for new belts are very expensive. Synchroflex belts can be much shorter than Brecoflex belts and stock sizes have no minimum order quantity.

If the belt you require is not available in a Synchroflex size then Brecoflex belts are your next option.

Brecoflex belts are made by extruding polyurethane around the tension members wound between two toothed pulleys. By altering the centre distance between the two pulleys belts can be made from 800mm long to 20 metres in steps of one tooth. The advantage is superb flexibility for the designer, multiple materials and tension members available but the disadvantages are that there are no stocks of finished belts, production width is 100mm and if you require a non-standard length you have to take the full 100mm.

Both Synchroflex (SFX) and Brecoflex (BFX) are the strongest, most powerful of the steel-reinforced polyurethane belt family. They are made by the companies that invented the technologies and have no equals.

JOINED (JOINTED) BELTS

Finger jointed belts are from the BRECO family of belts. For lower power or conveying applications they are the perfect belt for fast deliveries and flexibility. The advantages are that they are available in many materials including food quality and anti-static with tension members of steel, stainless steel and Kevlar. The disadvantage is that they are only 50% of the strength of a Synchroflex or Brecoflex belt of the same dimensions.
